Helping people understand complex issues

Kia ora from Carolyn

At The Workshop, we notice time and time again that those we work with want to help others understand the complex issues that we collectively face. This is what drives them, and this is what drives us too.

When we have ways of talking that help people connect to why the issue matters, understand how it came about and what could work better, we deepen people’s understanding. With deeper understanding comes support for the solutions that will make the biggest difference to people and the planet.

Finding and using more helpful ways of talking and framing the issues we care about doesn’t happen by accident. It takes intention, collaboration and some new practices for how we communicate.

Learning how to frame and explain your issue is an important part of your strategy. Our Narratives for Change training will help you understand the theory behind narratives and frames as well as provide opportunities to practice with others who are also working towards a more just and inclusive Aotearoa.

You can find all the options and locations for our public training (including Christchurch!) on our events calendar.

Being confident and capable in using helpful narratives and frames in your own communications creates a healthier information environment for everyone. Sometimes, we also need to deal with difficult conversations and address false information. Our Planning for Difficult Conversations and False Information training gives you three evidence-based tools you can use when false information is impacting the work that you do.

We’re offering live-virtual via zoom and in-person options for this training and have coordinated dates so you can do both Narratives for Change and Preparing for Difficult Conversations and False Information training more easily.

If you’re not sure which training option is right for you then get in touch and we’d love to help. You can email me at training@theworkshop.org.nz
